South Sioux City is the defending champion and brings everybody back from last year’s state team, plus they add an experienced freshman at a weight class of need in Madelynn Bohnet. They will be the heavy favorites for a repeat title. Westside with a pair of returning champions in Regan Rossetter and transfer Zoey Barber along with Piper Zatechka will have a solid amount of team points, but they will need someone else on their roster to step up and help if they want to dethrone SSC. Norfolk did some impressive things last year finishing runner-up at the first girls state meet. They have a loaded team coming back and I would expect them to pick up where they left off. Yutan has two returning champions in the Pehrson sisters, and they add dynamite freshmen Jordyn Campbell. Can they fit her into the line-up to help them climb up the podium? Papillion-LaVista could be the dark horse team this season. They did not finish the way they expected to last season and with the addition of super freshmen, Addeline Graser, they have a great shot of climbing the top 5. Chadron did some great things last year and that whole team returns, look for them to be in top 5 when it is all said and done. Grand Island has a solid team returning and I would expect big things as their girls continue to improve in their second season. Schuyler probably has the biggest upside based on their returning team plus mix of new freshmen talent. Northwest is another team that started to figure it out at the end of last season. They have a good core and if the rest of them figure it out, watch out. Winnebago returns all their points from state last year and will look to improve on their solid
performance a year ago.
