Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association
2023 NSAA State Duals Preview-Boys
Class A
1. Millard South
2. Lincoln East
3. Norfolk
4. North Platte
5. Papillion-La Vista
6. Elkhorn South
7. Omaha Central
8. Millard North
Millard South vs Millard North
This battle of Millard might be one sided. Big match up here is at 170. Petry vs Roberston is always a fun battle to watch. Other than that match I would say the Patriots are favored in every other match on the card.
Millard South 66-0
Lincoln East vs Omaha Central
As the old adage is “don’t hate the player, hate the game” Central is getting a lot of flak for qualifying, but don’t be mad at them, we have to do a better job making a point system that works for wrestling. The big match up here is 120. Not sure if Bonam will be healthy in time after injuring defaulting out of Metro final. Ingerwson has been on a tear as of late and with the possibility of Rakes coming back that 120 match might be a fun one. In the end all Lincoln East.
Lincoln East 60-15
Norfolk vs Elkhorn South
The Panthers are loaded dual team. Elk. South is making their first appearance and are having a solid season. The big boys are the one to keep an eye on in this dual. Hammer/Bos have been bounced all over the place between 220/285 (and some 195). So who comes out against Freshman Perrien will be a solid match.
Norfolk 54-18
North Platte vs Papillion-LaVista
This one on paper is going to be a very tough dual. Both teams have solid dual lineups, so bonus points will be paramount to who gets over. There will be a ton of rated match ups. The two I have my eye on are 126 and 182. In the end I give the Monarchs more bonus points and the W.
Papillion-LaVista 38-30
State Semifinals
Millard South vs Papillion-LaVista
This dual happened not too long ago and Millard South won by 20. Could see some bumping to better the Monarchs chances, but it should still be all Patriots. We will get to see the potential State finals match for a 5th time at 113 between Ekdhal and Druden this year. 195 is poised to be another barn burner as well between Olin and Popish.
Millard South 48-24
Lincoln East vs Norfolk
Could be the dual of the tournament on the Class A side. Very competitive in most matches. Again, bonus points will be a premium in this dual. They met at the fracas earlier this year and Lincoln East won 37-33. A lot has changed since then, but I think the result is still the same in the Spartans favorite.
Lincoln East 34-30
State Finals
Millard South vs Lincoln East
Millard South is just that talented. They beat Lincoln East 46-21 when they wrestled two weeks ago. Not seeing a whole lot of changes to make East get any closer. The 152 will be a fun match up. Sherlock got the 8-5 decision over Aburumuh, but you might be able to see a different outcome after Aburumuh has been on a tear since dropping that match.
Millard South 48-20
