Class D team race is looking like a tight one with several teams capable of challenging the defending champs. Plainview moves up after an impressive showing at Amherst. Their young wrestlers are really contributing right now. Bergan has plenty of weapons with six projected medalists. Mullen is still the dominant team in the West. Lots of ranked wrestlers saw each other for the first time over the holidays and we had some great matches and a few upsets. Some of the notable tournaments included meets at Burwell, Amherst, Garden County, and the two-day High Plains Invite. Great tribute to Coach Norm Manstedt was held there. I’d like to take time to thank Coach Norm Manstedt and congratulate him on his 50 years of coaching and help in promoting and growing the sport of wrestling in the state! The district projections have Burwell leading the way out in D1 with Elkhorn Valley, Central Valley, and Neligh close behind. D2 seems very close with Plainview having the edge over Amherst. Archbishop Bergan looks like a clear favorite to win D3 with teams like Palmer and Howells-Dodge also wrestling well. Out west in D4 Mullen is still the favorite, but Sutherland and Maxwell are close competition. Thank you to the coaches who take time to send information and contribute to these rankings. In order to qualify for the State Duals this season, they are no longer using the 4 district champions and 4 wild cards format. The duals date has changed to the Saturday before the district tournaments so they won’t factor in anymore. The qualifying method for the duals are through a wildcard system that is now based on regular season dual results. Each team must wrestle at least six duals to be eligible for the tournament. As of right now Mullen, Winside, Thayer Central, Plainview, Central Valley, West Holt, Arapahoe, and Elwood. Round out the top 8 in the Wildcard standings. Projecting dual results later in the season, teams like Archbishop Bergan, Clearwater-Orchard, Sutherland, and Burwell could all easily move up. Will be interesting to see the wild card points as more teams start to reach the 6 dual minimum.

Russell remains number 1 staying undefeated so far. Sauceda makes the move down from 113 with two wins over Hansen, but dropped a close match to Lanham at Amherst. Foster remains undefeated with two wins over Klasna.

Marshall stays number one, wrestling well right now with recent wins over Murillo and Peterka. Wilkinson remains undefeated with a win over Ashburn in the finals at Amherst. Arps has had an impressive freshman campaign so far even with some recent setbacks to out of class opponents at the High Plains Invite. Oakley enters the ratings with wins over multiple contenders recently and a quality start for a freshman as well.

Wood had his first loss of the season to Smith but was able to avenge it the next week in the finals at Burwell, also earning a win over Phillips. Ellis’ only losses are still out of class. Shields continues to wrestle well with recent wins over Kester and Wells. Larson makes the move down to 120 and had a big win over Warman in the finals at Dundy County Stratton.

Hamilton has been inactive since the last rankings, still with only one match down at 126. Reimers had his first loss of the season to an out of class opponent, but still has quality wins over others in this class. Casey is wrestling well with losses to out of class opponents. Frank has picked up several more wins and is looking like a top competitor at this weight. Gideon is down now that his descent plan allows it and pinned Palmer in the finals at Burwell.

Amherst saw many rated wrestlers competing at this weight. The big upset in was incoming freshman Kerns starting his season with a pin over previously #1 Christiansen. Eggleston won that bracket with an eventual pin over Kerns. Chistiansen was able to beat Herley for 3^rd place. Gracey also suffered his first loss of the year to Vogl, whose only losses are to out of state/class opponents. Several contenders on the outside looking in could just as easily make these rankings.

Also at the Burwell Invite, Martinez avenge an earlier season loss to Laible. Lovitt hasn’t wrestled in a few weeks. Lewis enters the rankings after beating a few contenders and a close win over Martinez at Burwell.

Some big changes come at 145. Riggs is still the favorite, still undefeated. Johnson makes the move down. Florell was able to win his own tournament at Amherst with a big win over Gunning in the finals. The upset was Gunning getting the close win over Guererro in the semis. Sweet also made the move down to 145 and lost to Holthus at Garden County. Very deep weight with a few contenders having wins over rated wrestlers as well.

Coons has been a measure of consistency this year. Bloomquist also has wins over a few contenders and Ebert. Ebert recently gained a head to head win over Arehart. Racicky has been inactive since the last rankings. White, Arehart, and Kautz are now down to 152 and competing well, with Arehart holding a head to head advantage over Kautz from when they wrestled each other up at 160.

Not much movement at this weight with many contenders dropping to 152. Nothing has changed much at the top. Garcia still holds the edge over Simants. Simants has the head to head over McFarland. None of them have seen each other since earlier in the year. All continue to keep winning. Jensen is still waiting to come back. Schutz has also been inactive since the last ratings. Soule has been wrestling well and has wins over a few contenders as well.

Zimmerer remains undefeated at #1 with a win over Ratkovec at Wisner. Mundt had his first loss, but it came out of class. McCurdy is also wrestling well with his only in-class loss to Mundt. Scott and Pofahl stay put based on Scott’s win over Pofahl earlier in the season. Ratkovec has been wrestling well lately as well. Multiple contenders are capable of challenging for the top six.

Dawe stays undefeated remains top ranked. Baptista still looks like his best competition. Villwok picked up a few losses to out of class opponents but took his first in class loss to Horejsi, who avenged a prior loss. Russell has beaten multiple contenders but took a big loss to Baptista in the finals at Franklin. Snider upset Schaecher at their dual recently. Several contenders could make an impact at this weight also.

Gale is wrestling very well this season and will be a tough out for anyone down the road. Musgrave has now split with Wolfe and his other losses were to Hunter. Wolfe also got back to even against Bogard as well, each with a fall over the other.

Rosenkrans is back in the rankings after picking up wins over multiple contenders including previously ranked Slagle.

Still think this will be the weight that could realistically medal two from the same school. Martin enters the rankings after a win over Nelson at Amherst.
