Millard South leads the way again this year in hopes of bringing home their 6th straight team trophy that has only been accomplished once in class A – The Omaha South Packers from 1931-1933 and 1935-1937 (No championship in 1934). The senior-led Patriots return 9 qualifiers and 192 points from last year’s record-breaking team. Lincoln East holds down the number 2 spot although teams 2-5 could really flip-flop as the year progresses. Lincoln East brings back 75.5 points and 7 qualifiers. Millard West has assembled one of the best teams since their 2017-2018 team that finished 7th at State. They return the most qualifiers in Class A with 10 and 56 points. Creighton Prep only returns 4 qualifiers and 36 points, but they also have brought in the most powerful group of freshmen Class A has ever seen! Look for them to make a big push up the rankings as the season moves on. The Islanders are always well coached by Joey Morrison, and they bring back 9 qualifiers from last year’s 6th place finish. Rounding out the top 10 are 5 more teams that will push to be in the top 5 at State this year. Norfolk will bring back 6 qualifiers and 42 points, which is 1 returning point more than Omaha Bryan will bring back. Coach Susjnar’s Bear’s also bring back 6 qualifiers, but 41 points. Old foe’s Columbus and Kearney bring back exactly the same number of qualifiers and points with 7 qualifiers and 40 points. Both teams will be looking to stay in the top 10 this year! Papio South lands in the number 10 spot to start the season, and will be looking to hold off a slew of others to stay in the top 10.
